• the record for longest senate speech was surpassed by an hour after NJ senator Cory Booker’s 25-hour speech ended yesterday. he spent the duration of it railing against Trump.

• the cool redesign of the MTA map was unveiled, and appears much in the style of a controversial (insofar as a metro map can be considered ‘controversial’) and quickly-replaced version of the map from the 1970s.

• Obama inadvertently photobombed a portrait of two young siblings beneath the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin.

Trump’s tariff plan was announced yesterday and stipulates as follows.

• minimum 10% tariff on all exporters to the US, which will begin at midnight on Saturday.

• at midnight on 9 April, the following higher tariffs will be implemented:

  • European Union 20%

  • China 34%

  • Vietnam 46%

• honoring a USMCA stipulation, an exception has been made for Canada and Mexico.

• S&P 500 futures took a tumble in the aftermath of the tariff announcement.

• in a bid to challenge their rivals in the private market, Goldman Sachs is opening private equity deals for rich individuals.
